These are the questions Concord drivers ask most about their glass, including the ones Google shows when people in Concord search for windshield replacement. Each answer is short and says where to read more. Impex Auto Glass has no shop in Concord: the service is mobile, and the nearest Impex shop is in Charlotte.
Cost and insurance
Prices depend on the car and the glass, so this site does not publish them. What sets the price, and how insurance works in North Carolina, is answered below; the full claim process is on NC windshield replacement insurance.

Questions people ask
How much does it cost to replace a windshield in NC?
It depends on the car and the glass: whether the windshield has a camera bracket, a rain sensor or heating, whether it is OEM or aftermarket glass, and whether the camera needs calibrating after. Impex checks the part by VIN and says its quotes are fully inclusive, with no hidden fees, upsells, delivery charges, fuel fees or disposal fees. Ask for a quote for your car.
What is the average cost to have a windshield replaced?
There is no useful average, because two cars of the same model can need different glass. The features in the glass and the calibration after decide most of the difference. With insurance, what you pay is usually your comprehensive deductible, unless your policy has full glass coverage.
How do I find a fair price for a windshield replacement?
Compare like with like: the same glass, the same calibration and the same total. A low price that leaves out the calibration, the disposal or the trip is not the same job. Impex’s quotes include those, it says, with no hidden fees.
Does North Carolina replace windshields for free?
No. NC has no zero-deductible glass law. Glass damage usually goes under comprehensive coverage and your comprehensive deductible applies, unless your policy includes full glass coverage. South Carolina and Florida have such laws; North Carolina does not.
Can my insurer make me use a particular glass company?
No. Under G.S. 58-3-180 you choose the repair service, and the insurer pays the same whichever you choose. The NC Department of Insurance says an insurer cannot require you to go to a particular repair shop.
Will a glass claim add points to my insurance?
A comprehensive glass claim is not an at-fault accident, so it adds no Safe Driver Incentive Plan points. Your insurer may still look at how often you file claims.
Can a 12 inch crack in a windshield be repaired?
Length alone does not rule it out: the ROLAGS repair standard lists single line cracks up to 14 inches as repairable. A crack that reaches an edge, branches, or sits in front of the driver is usually replaced.
How long can I drive with a cracked windshield?
No NC rule sets a time or a crack size, but a crack can spread with heat, cold and bumps, and one in your line of sight is a safety problem. Have it looked at soon, and cover a fresh chip with clear tape until then.
What is the law on cracked windshields in NC?
NC’s annual safety inspection (G.S. 20-183.3) checks the wipers, not the glass itself, and no statute sets a crack size. G.S. 20-135 requires safety glass in the windshield of an NC-registered vehicle made on or after January 1, 1936.
Does auto glass repair fix scratches?
Windshield repair resin is made for breaks, the stone chips and cracks the ROLAGS standard covers. A scratch is not a break. Ask Impex to look at it before you decide what to do.
Can I buy a windshield online or at a big store and fit it myself?
Repair kits for small chips are sold in many stores, but a windshield is a part matched to the car by VIN and bonded in with urethane. The AGSC says the windshield is part of the passenger restraint system and must be installed properly for airbags to deploy safely, so fitting one is a job for an installer.
What should I ask about a national chain or any other glass company?
The same questions you would ask Impex: is the glass matched by VIN, is the camera calibration included, what is the drive-away time, and what is the total. You choose the shop under NC law, whatever your insurer suggests.
Will my car need calibration after a new windshield?
If it has a forward facing camera at the top of the windshield, usually yes. Impex calibrates on site after replacement and says most calibrations take between 30 minutes and 2 hours.
Does a new windshield mean radar calibration too?
Not usually. Front radar sits in or behind the bumper or grille. It needs aiming after radar replacement and may need it after bumper or grille removal or front structural repair.
Do I have to be home for the visit?
Not always. Impex lists no-contact service options. Agree the access and the key handover when you book.
What if it rains on the day?
The adhesive needs a dry surface. A garage or carport keeps a windshield visit on; otherwise Impex will arrange another time.
Where does the van go?
